Riverdale

One of the long form television dramas I have been watching is the series 'Riverdale'. Riverdale is an American television series based on the characters of the Archie Comics. The series was adapted for The CW by Archie Comics' chief creative officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The series is produced by CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros Television, in association with Berlanti Productions and Archie Comics. Originally conceived as a feature film adaptation for Warner Bros Pictures, the idea was reimagined as a television series for Fox. In 2015, development on the project moved to The CW, where the series was ordered for a pilot. Filming takes place in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The series features an ensemble cast based on the characters of Archie Comics, with KJ Apa in the role of Archie Andrews; Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, and Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, the series' narrator. The cast also features Ashleigh Murray as Josey McCoy and Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom. Other characters in the series include Fred Andrews, Alice Cooper, FP Jones, and Hermione Lodge, the parents of Archie, Betty, Jughead and Veronica respectively.

The thirteen-episode first season premiered on January 26, 2017 to positive reviews, before concluding on May 11 2017. On March 7, 2017, The CW renewed the series for a second season, which premiered on October 11, 2017. On December 1, 2017, a spin-off series based on the comic book Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina was ordered to series by Netflix with a two-season order.

The series follows Archie Andrews' life in the small town of Riverdale and explores the darkness hidden behind its seemingly perfect image. In season 1 the main plot revolves around the death of Jason Blossom, Cheryl's brother, which is the first dark happening in the perfect Riverdale in the youths current lifetime. This death then reveals all the dark and horrible things about Riverdale which effects the lives of everyone living there. The main characters all try to work out the mystery of Jason and who the murderer is while discovering dark things about themselves and those around them. In the end they do solve the mystery, however Riverdale is no longer the happy and safe place it was. This follows Todorov's narrative theory as it follows a similar start of peace and happiness at the start, then a huge problem which changes everything and a resolution at the end.
