Audience Expectations

For this task I set up a surveymonkey for people to fill out. I recieved fourteen respondants who filled
out the survey. The questions I asked were as follows:

1) When watching a music video for a dance music artist (such as Avicii, Calvin Harris, Dua Lipa etc) what would you expect?

2) Which of these things are vital for a successful music video (multiple choice)
 - Lip syncing to the lyrics of the song
 - Shots of the artist
 - Some form of story happening
 - Dancing
 - Abstract setting (such as in a studio)
 - Naturalistic setting (such as in the woods)
 - Shots of the artists performance

3) Who is your favourite Dance Music Artist who has the best music videos in your opinion (don't just go for your favourite artist)

4) Would the notion of an abstract, narrative music video appeal to you?

5) Finally, define your personal opinion of what dance music is

For question one, a common answer was to include colour. Other answers included lights, dancing, backgrounds and fast paced.

For question two the most common answers were lip syncing, dancing, shots of the artist and some form of story.

For question three there was a broad range of answers including Dua Lipa, Calvin Harris, Shawn Mendes, Little Mix, Drake, Mura Masa, Marshmello and Young Fathers.

For question four 85% of people said they would find a abstract, narrative music video appealing.

For question five a lot of people answered that dance music is something you can dance to and have fun with.

Looking at the results does give me some anxiety about doing a music video where I don't want to use lipsynicing or an artist in the video however I was pleased at the outcome of people finding my concept appealing.
