Nine Frame Analysis

Taylor Swift - 'Shake It Off'' Music Video

Frame 1:

Close up shot of some ballet dancers at a bar it is unclear as to what their relevance is currently in the video and is intriguing for the watcher.

Frame 2:

Shows a different angle of the dancers warming up at the bar, the style of dance they are doing contradicts the style of music this is. Dance music suggests freedom and fun whereas ballet suggests confinement and precision.

Frame 3:

This shot shows Swift emerging from the other dancers making her the focus of the video and is also a metaphor for her breaking away from the rest and being  free to do what she wants without taking into account the opinion of others.

Frame 4:

This shot is a closer shot of Swift lip syncing to the lyrics of the video, the focus is primarily on her as she is central and in full focus.

Frame 5:

This shot is a simple wide shot showing another ballerina doing a structured position, stretching for her ballet. She is the typical image of a ballerina; hair in a tight bun, flexible, pointed toes and slim body type, she fits the stereotype perfectly.

Frame 6:

Close up shot of another stereotypical ballerina, also a brunette doing a restricted and tight warm up stretch.

Frame 7:

Another close up of Swift, staring directly at the camera (the other ballerinas didn't make eye contact with it) She's in a cat jumper, showing her love for cats but also deviating away from the classic ballet look.

Frame 8:

Shot of ballerina stretching, not looking at the camera and fitting the stereotype again.

Frame 9:

Shot of another ballerina fitting the same agenda. The point of these to show the juxtaposition of them and Swift and how she breaks the stereotype and becomes individual.

Alan Walker 'Faded' Music Video

Frame 1:

The artists logo appears with a tv crash/blur effect into the opening setting. It happens quickly to grab the watchers attention and create an interesting opening to the video.

Frame 2:

This wide shot shows a broken down area where usually crowds of people would sit but instead it is empty and deserted and somewhat lifeless.

Frame 3:

Wide shot of a run down location with nobody there. Grey toned colours to make it look dreary and miserable and "faded".

Frame 4:

Wide shot zooming slightly with a figure in the corner. There is an introduction of light through the windows in this shit which contrasts the darkness of the previous shot.

Frame 5:

Shot of a mysterious laptop showing the artists logo again. Since the artist doesn't feature in the video this is an effective way of still promoting him throughout the video.

Frame 6:

The shot draws our attention fully to the hooded figure who is looking out the window. The camera moves closer to him.

Frame 7:

Close up shot of the person's arm. There is a sense of ruggedness and poverty in his outfit due to the frayed gloves.

Frame 8:

Extreme close up of his hand moving, stressing the gloves and connotations that occur with them and to show him  reaching for something.

Frame 9:

This closeup shows the person pulling out what seems to be a picture from his pocket, drawing our attention to  that and intriguing the watcher as to what it is.
